Mac App Store Running on a MacBook Air |
It seems that almost all of the Mac programs you can buy on the shelf at a computer store will be available for download here. Some programs include iPhoto, GarageBand, Color Studio, and Home Watch.
A similar program to the Mac App store exists already, called Bodega. Bodega can probably do almost everything the Mac app store can do, but must have a smaller selection.

It seems good so far, but there a few reasons why you may want to stay away. If you have a slow internet connection, this is a bad idea. You don't want to spend hours waiting for a 1GB program to download. Also, Apple will probably have the same approval process here as they do in iOS. Apps may get pulled, and you might not be able to find the apps you want.
So is this a good thing? For most, yes. But some may find themselves going back to the brick and mortar shops, and pulling that same old software off of those great metal shelves.

This amazing. I heard you on the Lep Laporte show today saying this bold didn't show in Google, but when I typed it in, it came up as first option. How cool is that?
Nice looking blog man! I haven't had time to look through all your posts, but I've probably read half of them. I head you on This Week In Tech last Sunday night, and bookmarked your blog that same evening. Really great for any blogger, let alone one of your age!! Keep up the good work!
BTW, do you happen to know how we will get access to the new Mac App Store? I have seen an icon for it in the dock on all the screen shots I've seen for the App Store. Is it going to be distributed the Mac OS X updater, or will we have to actively go & download it on the Apple Website? I'll be watching for a reply.
Again, great blog, and keep up the good work!!
Heard you over the weekend on the Leo Laporte show....GREAT job!!!
In response to Firebird: I did some research on whether or not the Mac app store will be a download from the website, or if it will be distributed through the OS X updater.
At the Apple announcement they said, “The Mac App Store is available to Mac OS X Snow Leopard users as a free download through Software Update.”
As a Windows user, I am not sure exactly what that means. But it seems to be the answer to your question. I believe it will be a download through Mac OS X Update, but I am sure you will be able to download it from the Apple website as well.
